Mehso-so

Three books in and it's getting predictable. Joe does something stupid. Joe gets involved in something where he has no jurisdiction. Joe does something else stupid. Joe and/or his family get hurt. Joe does more stupid things (how does this man still have a job?!?). There's a big showdown. Terrible things happen. Joe wins, kind of, but it's overshadowed by the fallout from the ineptitude of everyone else (how does the sheriff still have a job?).

DGRachel The plot of this one feels ripped from the headlines, as it is supposed to, and it is well constructed. However, the villains are caricatures and some of the bad things that happen feel like they are just thrown in for shock value. I can't take any more of Joe's stupidity, though, and this will be the last book I read of the series. 2y

It has taken me the first three of these books to really get into things. It took a while to get to know and like the characters. I started off a little cold to them but each book develops them more and makes them more likable. I enjoyed this book very much. It is my fun fiction choice right now. I look forward to continuing to read the other books in the series.

Twainy I like the Picket novels! I think I started these right around the time I started the Bosch series. 4y
CRR @Twainy I haven‘t heard of the Bosch series, I will take a look! 4y

This is Joe Pickett #3. These books just keep getting better and better!! Joe must protect his family while working a government-agencies-vs-anti-government-separatists plotline. I was *astounded* when I realized who the separatist group is!! It was riveting. A lot of emotion in the last 1/3 of the story with the intense action. The snowy Wyoming mountains are a great setting and Joe Pickett is the BEST.

Audiobook narration by David Chandler is💯

I **LOVE** this series and its main character, Joe Pickett. I‘m packing my house up and working us toward moving in a few days, and I‘ve been saving this book for exactly right now to coincide with this stressful and tedious set of tasks. But I‘M SO EXCITED to be reading and listening to this!! Makes the work easier!

Joe is a Game Warden out in Wyoming. His job is intense and adventurous, and the setting is an absolute DREAM. Narration is great.

Bookzombie I‘m eventually going to get to this series! 5y

He was expected to bring lawbreakers to jail, but wasn‘t exactly equipped for it if they were hostile or resisted arrest. Nonetheless, what had happened in the mountains had triggered this chain of events. He felt guilty, and #responsible. And he wanted, and needed, to see this thing through, even though this was the last place he wanted to be. #QuotsyMay19

❄️1°F feels like -15°F
☀️80s and humid, otherwise I‘m still cold if I‘m not in the sun
❄️63° but I usually turn it up to 65°
☀️Summer, sun, reading outside
❄️I typically read whatever, but I‘ve been reading a lot of fantasy this winter.

I am enjoying the audio of this series. I see some books as steaks and some as potato chips. I'd have to put this one in the potato chip category. It's not very deep but it will take you away to storyland when you need a break from real life.

This series was recommended by fans of Craig Johnson's Longmire series (which I love). I just started Winter kill, which is book 3. Book 1 was really uneven. 2 was better, 8 have high hopes for this one.
