The Art of Kubo and the Two Strings
The Art of Kubo and the Two Strings | Emily Haynes
4 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
From LAIKA, the Academy Award-nominated studio behind Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls, comes a new adventure set in a mythical ancient Japan. In Kubo and the Two Strings, scruffy, kind-hearted Kubo cares devotedly for his mother while eking out a humble living in their sleepy shoreside village. But when a spirit from the past appears, Kubo suddenly finds himself entwined in a violent struggle against gods and monsters. This fully illustrated book offers a behind-the-scenes view of the amazingly detailed artwork and unique stop-motion animation style involved in the film's creation.

From Kubo and the Two Strings. While this scene is pretty calm, Kubo and his crew face some pretty horrific adversaries.

There is a new exhibit at the Portland Art Museum from Laika Films. I was so excited to see the sets and puppets. This is from Kubo and the Two Strings.

I just watched this movie, and it was fabulous! Gorgeous flow of cgi and stop motion technique, a magical storyline, and a great voice cast. I can't wait to get my hands on the book of the art! Has anyone else seen this movie?

Weaponxgirl Yes! It was my favourite children's movie last year. I thought it was a really mature storyline that didn't hold any punches yet was still suitable for the age range. That said I can see why it wasn't a blockbuster but I really hope this movie finds its audience to become the cult classic it deserves to be. 8y
DragonSadhana @Weaponxgirl I agree! And I'm gonna help it find its audience! 😆👍🏾🎬 8y
heatherspoetlife Yes! I think we watched it every day for like two weeks after the first time. 8y
DragonSadhana @StoredFeminism Haha, I can understand why! I added it to my favorites list for future enjoyment! 8y
