Eminent Hipsters
Eminent Hipsters | Donald Fagen
2 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
A witty, candid, sharply written memoir by the cofounder of Steely Dan In his entertaining debut as an author, Donald Fagenmusician, songwriter, and cofounder of Steely Danreveals the cultural figures and currents that shaped his artistic sensibility, as well as offering a look at his college days and a hilarious account of life on the road. Fagen presents the eminent hipsters who spoke to him as he was growing up in a bland New Jersey suburb in the early 1960s; his colorful, mind-expanding years at Bard College, where he first met his musical partner Walter Becker; and the agonies and ecstasies of a recent cross-country tour with Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs. Acclaimed for his literate lyrics and complex arrangements as a musician, Fagen here proves himself a sophisticated writer with his own distinctive voice.

Day 11: #FictionFriday

Just a shot of one of my bookshelves. Since I work in a library I don't buy a lot of fiction, so if I own it, it's probably a favorite. (Eminent Hipsters is there because I'm a fan of Donald Fagen; haven't read it yet.)

Ruthiella You don‘t *gasp* alphabetize by author?😮 JUST KIDDING - l don‘t either really. I‘ve only read one Louise Penny but I LOVE Hillary Mantel😀 I think she is genius! 7y
TiredLibrarian @Ruthiella Nah, I save the alphabetizing for work 😉 and I love Hilary Mantel, too. Wish she would hurry up with the long-awaited 3rd book! ✏📃✒📒😀 7y
KateFulfordAuthor Love Hilary Mantel! Fun fact: The illustrator she used (at least here in the UK) also did my cover! And my husband is now looking up Donald f‘s book. ;-) 7y

At the bookstore signing a box of early Mongrels, I kept looking up and seeing half of Steely Dan looking back at me. I'm pretty sure they staged this impulse buy, that Boulder Bookstore KNOWS I wrote a (different) novel that went cryptic-deep into the Dan, and never came back up.
