The River of Kings
The River of Kings: A Novel | Taylor Brown
The Altamaha River, Georgias Little Amazon, has been named one of the 75 Last Great Places in the World. Crossed by roads only five times in its 137-mile length, the blackwater river is home to thousand-year-old virgin cypress, descendants of 18th-century Highland warriors, and a motley cast of rare and endangered species. The Altamaha has even been rumored to harbor its own river monster, as well as traces of the most ancient European fort in North America. Brothers Hunter and Lawton Loggins set off to kayak the river, bearing their fathers ashes toward the sea. Hunter is a college student, Lawton a Navy SEAL on leave; both young men were raised by an angry, enigmatic shrimper who loved the river, and whose death remains a mystery that his sons hope to resolve. As the brothers proceed downriver, their story is interwoven with that of Jacques Le Moyne, an artist who accompanied the 1564 expedition to found a French settlement at the rivers mouth, which began as a search for riches and ended in a bloody confrontation with Spanish conquistadors and native tribes. In The River of Kings, SIBA-bestselling author Taylor Brown artfully weaves three narrative strandsthe brothers journey, their fathers past, and the dramatic history of the rivers earliest peopleto evoke a legendary place and its powerful hold on the human imagination.

#River on my #TBR. I read an ARC of Brown‘s latest, Gods of Howl Mountain and loved it so much, I went to the signing he did at my local #indie #ParkRoadBooks and bought his complete back list. He was such a nice guy and I‘m looking forward to this book.

Loved this. Recommend for a layered exploration of home, family, promises, and the power of nature. The novel takes place in three time periods along the Altamaha River in South Georgia, and each plot line is breathtaking.

This trio of tales was hypnotic, frightening and so very sad. I have mixed feelings about content but loved the author's style and language!!!

#TBRtemptation post 1! Brothers Hunter and Lawton Loggins set off to kayak Georgia's Altamaha River, bearing their shrimper father's ashes to the sea. One's in college, the other a Navy SEAL. They want to resolve their father's mysterious death. As they proceed, their story's interwoven with their father's & Jacques Le Moyne's, an artist who accompanied a 1564 French settler expedition, which ended in bloody slaughter. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Dual time-period novel. Brothers canoeing a river in Georgia after their father's death juxtaposed with the experiences of 16th-century French explorers on the same river. This looks amazing. From St. Martin's Press. And that's it for tonight. Another batch later this week.
