They said she was armed. They said she was dangerous. They were right.Petty Moshen spent eighteen years of her life as a prisoner in her own home, training with military precision for everything, ready for anything. She can disarm, dismember, and kill and now, for the first time ever, she is free. Her paranoid father is dead, his extreme dominance and rules a thing of the past, but his influence remains as strong as ever. When his final will reveals a future more terrible than her captive past, Petty knows she must escape by whatever means necessary. But when Petty learns the truth behind her father's madness and her own family the reality is worse than anything she could have imagined. On the road and in over her head, Petty's fight for her life has just begun.Fans of female-powered thrillers will love debut author LS Hawker and her suspenseful tale of a young woman on the run for her future and from the nightmares of her past."

I met LS Hawker at a conference and discovered we shared the same editor. Unsurprisingly, we also instantly liked each other. This book is like her—sassy, irreverent, tough, honest. Or, like what I think she might be if she were trained as a killer and thrown into a mystery. My currently-reading pile is one book shorter, but another of hers will be in it soon enough!

“The house felt too tight, as if there weren‘t enough air for all these people.”
All those red dots are closures because it makes more sense to shut Houston down a day or two every year than buy and warehouse a crapton of winter weather equipment. My house does NOT feel too tight. Book, blankie, coffee...I‘m set for the day.

RaimeyGallant Wow about the red dots! And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you're interested. :) 7y
MargoCatts @RaimeyGallant Thank you! I‘m still trolling around trying to figure Litsy out, so this will help! 7y

MargoCatts @DebinHawaii Thank you! I loved your watermelon shake recipe so much I tried to figure out a way to have it at a book event but...not for making ahead, unfortunately. And I‘m loving Litsy. Giving it a little time every day and slowly getting a feel for it. Great to hear from you! 7y

I liked this book. I love that Petty is a such strong woman. I did guess the ending but even still I enjoyed the book. For me it's a pick!

Petty Moshen is a"bad ass" 22 year old girl who has never been more than a few miles from her home in rural Kansas. Then her father dies leaving her to decide whether she will follow the terms of his will (which gets her $1M) or whether she will uncover the mystery of her past. This was a great book that kept you guessing with engaging characters that had you rooting for them to the very end.
