Big Blue Sky: A memoir | Peter Garrett
9 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
Peter Garrett's life has been fully and passionately lived. A man of boundless energy, compassion, intelligence and creativity, he has already achieved enough to fill several lives. From his idyllic childhood growing up in the northern suburbs of Sydney, to an early interest in equality and justice; from the height of 1960s culture shock at ANU to fronting iconic Australian band Midnight Oil; from his time as a galvanising activist for the environment to being the only unaligned Cabinet minister in two Labor governments, Garrett has an extraordinary story to tell. He writes movingly about his lifelong mission to protect the environment and his connection with Aboriginal people, about his love for his family and his passion for our country: what it means to him and what it can become. Provocative, entertaining, impassioned and inspiring, this memoir goes to the heart and soul of a remarkable Australian and raises questions crucial to us all.

Read the tagged autobiography earlier this year in readiness for this concert in Perth last night.

For those outside Australia, Peter Garrett is the frontman for Australian rock band Midnight Oil who I last saw perform in the late 80‘s.

I was pretty excited to see them re-form for a worldwide tour this year. Great concert 🎤🎸👏.

#JuneTunz #MrBlueSky This memoir by Australian band Midnight Oil's frontman Peter Garrett fits this prompt perfectly.

I was a big fan of 'the Oils' as a teenager and have tickets to see them in October for the first time in 30 years. 🎸🎼🎤 😍👏

I was looking forward to reading this autobiography by Peter Garrett, Midnight Oil frontman, conservationist and politician. He has lead an interesting life, but I found this book, for the most part, fairly dry. I think he's probably a pretty good guy who wants to make the world a better place. And I am still excited to be seeing him and the band in concert, after a long hiatus, later this year.

quirkyreader I soon as I heard about the new tour I got super excited. I hope they come my way. 8y

Interesting perspective by Peter Garrett here. For those not familiar, he's the frontman of the politically-charged pub rock band Midnight Oil and was a minister in a recent Labour government here in Australia.

Help! What should I read next from this eclectic stack? Peter Garrett's memoir is on the top because his band, Midnight Oil, has just announced an international tour. I was a big fan in the 80's. I recently bought Life After Life due to Litsy recommendations and having recently read and loved A God In Ruins. I am spoilt for choice. 😁
