The premise sounds intriguing: guy threatens to detonate explosives in a church unless God talks to him. The actual book starts off well but quickly tailspins. No connection to any of the characters means the reader doesn't really care what happens to them. A lot of reviewers seem to like it but it doesn't live up to its promise. Rating: 2/5.

Stumbled upon this book by pure chance, and it ended up being the best book I've read in years. Being a mostly character driven story, each was developed superbly and had their own unique voice, rather than an author simply writing dialog and descriptions. It's a dark story, but not offensive.
