A page-turner Sunday Times Crime Club 'Re-energises the shopworn police procedural format' Financial Times Tim Johnson took his baby daughter out for a walk and she never made it home. Johnson claims he was assaulted and the girl was snatched. The police see a different crime, with Johnson their only suspect. A year later, Sam Bryne is on course to be elected as one of the youngest MPs in Westminster. He's tipped for the very top ... until he vanishes. Detectives Murphy and Rossi are tasked with discovering what has happened to the popular politician - and in doing so, they unearth a trail that stretches into the past, and crimes that someone is hell-bent on avenging.

I really enjoyed this book, despite the fact that some parts of it were a little predictable. There were multiple twists and I didn‘t see all of them coming. I look forward to checking out more books by this author.

Another solid book in the Murphy & Rossi series. Not as good as the previous three in my opinion but still really enjoyed it. Hope another one is coming soon 😊

I wish I had spaced these out more. What will I read now??? Oh that‘s right, 1 of the 37 other series inhabiting my Kindle. 😜 I hope this isn‘t the last we see of Murphy and Rossi or in my casting agent‘s brain, Idris Elba and Suranne Jones. ☺️

suzie.reads I've still got Bloodstream to read before this one 🥰 6y
Nute This sounds so good. Stacking and checking out the series! 6y
DGRachel I haven‘t read this author, but with that fan casting- SIGN ME UP! 6y

eanderson Looks like another series I‘ll have to check out! 😯 6y
TrishB Just going to start this one - was saving it 👍🏻 6y
TrishB Great casting - I just leave all that to you! Although what their scouse accents will be like 🤷‍♀️ 6y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB Poor Idris must be exhausted from starring in so many of my series. “Male Brit detective? That will be Idris!” I could have “cast” Jodie Comer but she‘s too young to play Rossi and doesn‘t look to have an ounce of Italian in her. I spend way too much time thinking about these things. ☺️ 6y
TrishB lol! I‘m hopeless because I don‘t usually remember who anyone is 🤷‍♀️ 6y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB Well that‘s what you have me for. ☺️ 6y
TrishB @MicheleinPhilly exactly 😁 6y

Fourth in the murphy/Rossi series and a rattling good page turner it turned out to be. Veste tends to take themes current in the news and use them, here a group of affluent young men who find themselves in lpool uni rather than oxbridge create a Bullingham style club, some yrs later they become a target. Felt I'd seen some ideas b4 but enjoyable crime writing.

Andrew65 Need to check out this series. 7y
TrishB I‘ve read number one and have others on the pile. An ex student from my work place and lots set in and around the Uni!! @Andrew65 7y
Andrew65 @TrishB prior to tonight not hear of these but accelerating up my TBR with abandon! 👍 7y

TrishB Probably pushed up my list to read others now! @Andrew65 (edited) 7y
andrew61 @TrishB @Andrew65 i guess you have listened to 'Two crime writers and a microphone ' - it's a good source for new crime fiction and luca Veste is one of hosts. 7y
TrishB I‘ve just got the second one off the pile for my next read! Thanks for the reminder. The author is always doing stuff in Liverpool! 7y
Andrew65 @TrishB @andrew61 The library has all his books so even better. 😊 7y

A good police procedural. I especially liked the camaraderie between the lead detectives Murphy and Rossi, and the gritty Liverpool setting, which felt authentic. The story lacked tension for me, partly because I didn't want to save the victims, & there weren't enough clear suspects to keep me guessing (this turned though). A little dark with the anger & revenge themes, but also touches on interesting issues like misogyny and elitism.

andrew61 I've read the first two and really enjoyed them. Book 2 similarly touched on interesting modern themes of vigilantism in Liverpool suburbs 8y
Abailliekaras @andrew61 I did like the modern setting. he has an excellent podcast with Steve cavanagh which I love, Two Crime Writers and a microphone. 8y
andrew61 I was only listening to it this morning, I've discovered some great new (to me) writers as a result and their laughter is infectious. 8y

Abailliekaras @andrew61 isn't it! 😂 8y
batsy @andrew61 @Abailliekaras I've only just started listening to that podcast and it's true about the laughter, love it! Didn't realise it was one of the host's books, that's cool. Will check it out. 8y
andrew61 @batsy Steve cavanagh's the defence was a really pacy legal thriller as well, im planning to read his others as well. 8y
batsy @andrew61 Thank you, that sounds good! 8y

Turning to crime on this sunny morning! Enjoying the contemporary Liverpool setting of this one.

andrew61 I've read the first two and they are very good police procedurals. 8y
