The Final Day
The Final Day: A Novel | William R. Forstchen
A major release in the New York Times bestselling One Second After series, set in an alternate America rebuilding after an electromagnetic pulse, this is William R. Forstchen's The Final Day. Since the detonation of nuclear weapons above the United States more than two years ago, the small town of Black Mountain, North Carolina has suffered famine, civil war, and countless deaths. Now, after defeating a new, tyrannical federal government, John Matherson and his community intend to restore their world to what it was before the EMP apocalypse. For the most part, they are succeeding. This period of relative stability doesnt last long. A new, aggressive government announces that its taking over and ceding large portions of the country to China and Mexico. The Constitution is no longer in effect, and whats left of the U.S. Army has been deployed to suppress rebellion in the remaining states. John fears he and his town will be targets. General Bob Scales, Johns old commanding officer and closest friend from prewar days, is sent to bring John into line. Will John and his people accept the new, autocratic regime? Or will revolution rip the fledgling nation apart at the seams? Months before publication, William R. Forstchens novel One Second After was cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read. This third book in the series immerses readers once more in the story of our nations struggle to rebuild itself after an electromagnetic pulse wipes out all electricity and plunges the country into darkness, starvation, and death. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

I usually don‘t read series. Well, this was book 3, and I found it to be just as good as the first 2. I‘m so afraid that the atrocities that occurred in this book will happen someday. Read it, and you‘ll know what I mean. The books were so well written that I flew through them. This was our first “family read” at the suggestion of my son in law. I hope we have more to come!

ItsAnotherJen This series is the only one I've loved that my father and brother-in-law also love. We literally have zero books in common outside of this! Lol 1y

Wrapping up an interesting trilogy with a mostly satisfactory conclusion. I'm not entirely sold on the third act antics that put the neat little bow on top, and the department of redundancies department got it's hands on few sections, as many of the character interactions seemed to go in circles, even in different chapters. Still, I'm giving it a "pick" rating because the concept is interesting, and the trilogy as a whole is a fun read.

Today was the final day for the library sale! 3 books for $1 so I snagged another bag full!!! Some of these I already had but I‘m hanging on to them to give as gifts because you just can‘t beat that price(not even at the thrift store). I am excited about the Jo Nesbo books and the book Yesternight by Cat Winters. And I got some good ones to read to my boys! It was a good week at the library sale! Thanks for letting me share my finds with you all!❤️

This is the final book in the trilogy, and I have to say that it is the weakest. There are flaws that I was able to overlook in the first book due to the truly terrifying scenario the author created, was still able to ignore in the second book, but that were glaringly leaping off the page in this final installment. The political and religious overtones were just too much for me.

Way to go William R. Forstchen! What great books. This series would make such a good movie! I liked the 3rd book so much more than I expected. I loved the first one so much that I was not at all excited to hear there was 2 more books out and that it was a series. I thought nothing could be as good as that first one...he would ruin it. How wrong was I!?

So, seriously, why has noone turned this into a movie yet?!

GarthRanzz Exactly!! I read the first two so fast. This is my kind of apocalyptic novel (please don‘t call these type dystopian). I need to read this one though! Make a tv series out of it at least! 7y

This is the last book in the series that began with one second after. A very frightening series due to how plausible it all is. All three audio book narrations are done very well. I think this is a series everyone should look into.
