Noon At Tiffany's | Echo Heron
5 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
IN THE SUMMER OF 1888, Clara Wolcott, a daring young artist from Ohio, walked into Louis Tiffany's Manhattan office to interview for a job as a designer. For the next 21 years, her pivotal role in his multi-million dollar empire remained one of Tiffany's most closely guarded secretsa secret that when revealed 118 years later sent the international art world into a tailspin. Torn between his obsession with Clara and his lust for success, Tiffany resorts to desperate measures to keep her creative genius under his command. Clara cleverly navigates both her turbulent love-hate relationship with Tiffany and the rigid rules of Victorian and Edwardian societies, in order to embrace all the adventure and romance turn-of-the-century New York City has to offer. Basing her story on a recently discovered cache of letters written between 1888 and 1944, New York Times bestselling author Echo Heron artfully blends fact with fiction to draw the reader into the remarkable life of one of America's most prolific and extraoridnary women artists: Clara Wolcott Driscoll, the hidden genius behind the iconic Tiffany lamps.

litterairy Huh. I read some of her books about being a nurse years ago. I had no idea Heron had branched out as an author. 6y
abookishbutterfly @litterairy Yeah, when I looked up the other books she had written, I was really surprised. This book was meticulously researched and incredibly well-written. While I see her other work is much different, I‘d definitely be interested in checking out another one of her books one day. 6y
litterairy I actually have Intensive Care and Condition Critical sitting in my to-donate pile. I'd be happy to send them to you, if you want. 6y
abookishbutterfly @litterairy I would love to read those and really appreciate the offer. My Goodreads link is on my profile here if you want to send me a message there to work out particulars. 6y
abookishbutterfly @litterairy I actually just realized who you were. Haha. You might have my address but if not, you can send me a PM on FB if you want. You should be able to get to me through Tabby‘s group. 6y

Pickpick

In Noon at Tiffany‘s, Echo Heron does a beautiful job weaving Clara‘s letter exchange with her family and meticulous historical research into a fictional tale (with huge fragments of truth) that provides a detailed look at the life Clara lived. I enjoyed this book so much. Clara deserves to have her story told, just as she deserved to have her mark on her work, which was something she never received in her lifetime.

Because this day has shown us once again that life is fragile, it seems urgent that I should tell you again how much I love you. In truth, when all is said and done, it is our ability to give and accept love that matters most in life. It is what makes us human. ~Clara Wolcott Driscoll
