Bone Lady: Life as a Forensic Anthropologist
Bone Lady: Life as a Forensic Anthropologist | Mary H Manheim
4 posts | 4 read | 7 to read
When a skeleton is all that's left to tell the story of a crime, Mary H. Manhein, otherwise known as "the bone lady," is called in. For almost two decades, Manhein has used her expertise in forensic pathology to help law enforcement agents--locally, nationally, and internationally--solve their most perplexing mysteries. She shares the extraordinary details of the often high-profile cases on which she works, and the science underlying her analyses. Here are Civil War skeletons, cases of alleged voodoo and witchcraft, crimes of political intrigue, and the before-and-after of facial reconstruction. Written with the compassion and humor of a born storyteller, The Bone Lady is an unforgettable glimpse into the lab where one scientist works to reveal the human stories behind the remains.

Found a cool used book and music store while visiting family in Fort Collins, CO! I picked up the tagged book and put several others on my TBR. I only have a little extra room in my suitcase so I can‘t stock up on books like I usually would at a used bookstore!

This just wasn‘t my cup of tea. It seemed like the writer struggled to find a good balance between technical working of the field and storytelling.

This was an easy read, a great peek into the world of forensic anthropology via memoir snippets. I found the stories at the beginning of the book more insightful than those in the latter half. I also found it interesting to learn from someone who came up in what was a bourgeoning field at the time. A great read for authors wanting to learn about this field. #anthropology #BooksForAuthors #amwriting

I've started to gather my options for this month's #24in48readathon, so there's part of my #JanuaryTBR. I found The Bone Lady in a free book swap at my gym, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it is. So many of these have high #litfluence! And I learned my lesson in the last readathon - shorter books are better! #ReadJanuary #thismonthsTBR #mounttbr
