Just seen a brilliant film based on this book but moved to Durham - if you get a chance go and see it but be warned very gothic and dark but great.

Just finished this beauty! "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk" and "A Winter's Day" were probably my favorite out of the collection. Those two alone are worth the book, Leskov I've found to be very good at telling a story with in a story and definitely deserving of being read.
