The System of the World | Neal Stephenson
'Tis done. The world is a most confused and unsteady place -- especially London, center of finance, innovation, and conspiracy -- in the year 1714, when Daniel Waterhouse makes his less-than-triumphant return to England's shores. Aging (…more)

Almost exactly five months after starting, I‘m finally finished this book!

This trilogy is a MAJOR time commitment. I‘ve read other long books but these ones are very slow reads. Consider very carefully before jumping in to the first one.

Anyway, this is a very good conclusion to the series. Like the other books, it drags in places but when it‘s firing on all cylinders, it‘s awesome. Needed more Jack and Eliza, though.

britt_brooke His books are so long!! Congratulations on completing the trilogy. I read, and loved his book Cryptonomicon recently, but chunksters truly intimidate the hell out of me. 7y
twohectobooks @britt_brooke This trilogy is actually a prequel to Cryptonomicon, which I hope to pick up once I‘ve recovered, hehe. 7y
britt_brooke @twohectobooks I didn‘t realize that, ha! 7y
twohectobooks @britt_brooke I‘m not sure how connected they actually are, mostly just that some of the characters in Cryptonomicon are descendants of characters in the Baroque Cycle. 7y

Seven days to finish this and under a hundred pages to go. I may finish in time to send it home with my sister after all!

#friyayintro @jesshowbooks

1️⃣ Cleaning my house, which has been a huge mess for weeks, and prepping for my sister‘s visit next week. After work today I‘m off until the 23rd!
2️⃣ Both! But definitely sunsets in the summertime.
3️⃣ Not really. If I can find a shady spot then yes, but the sun and my skin don‘t get along.
4️⃣ Light brown.
5️⃣ Will do :)

1️⃣ lots of misc stuff but mainly finishing painting my office
2️⃣ 3 with 2 in progress
3️⃣ both for different reasons (need to make the best of winter when that‘s the default condition of the place you live) - love snow and gardening
4️⃣ tough one.. April Wine was a major highlight
5️⃣ on my way!

Trying to reach the third and final part of this book this weekend so that I can pause and pick up A Discovery of Witches for book club (and Titus Andronicus!).

Have fallen behind on reviews again. Have also come to terms with the fact that my #tbrbingo progress will not be very speedy. Two books per month seems like the best I can do.

WhatDeeReads Two books per months is good enough! 7y

This is a slow read so it took a long time, but I‘ve reached the point where I can put down System of the World for a while to start Gormenghast. Enjoying it so far, it‘s just really dense!!

Also decided it‘d be a good day to start this beast, because I‘m a crazy person.

I cheated. I didn't read the first two volumes in this series but the four months I spent inside this dense, funny, clever, character rich book makes me feel like I didn't miss a thing.

KimHM I started the first one and it's really good, but SUCH a time commitment. Maybe I should go back . . . Loved Cryptonomicon, too. 9y
LaurenAsh @KimHM SUCH a time commitment! Not to mention that those books are heavy! 9y
KimHM My copy of Quicksilver is electronic, so I have not even that excuse! 9y
