I was thrilled to find a Mary Wesley at the Book Swap today! I was up & at it early considering it‘s summer holidays. All the tourists are in town so I tried the baths but it was hard to get a seat that wasn‘t uncomfortably close to someone in these covid times. I also managed to get my partner to the shops. No mean feat. I also got him into the change room and he bought a shirt. Success! I left him in the Apple store after & went op shopping.

Jeg Sometime ago an older friend put me on to Mary Wesley. Interesting woman for her times. I really enjoy her books. 3y

Pickpick

This is Mary Wesley's third novel, published at 75. It is the story of Hebe, who is raised by her grandparents. She is pregnant and they want her to have an abortion, so she runs away. The story picks up years later as we find Hebe makes no a living for her and her son by cooking for elderly folks and supplanting her income by sleeping with their sons. This is a sweet story about complicated relationships. #recommendsday
