What was the point? Too many POVs that didn‘t connect, yet somehow just intriguing enough that I would probably read the next installment of this family‘s story, which the author indicated he was writing on Goodreads. I put this book down just feeling utterly bewildered, but maybe that‘s why I would read another book? To finally figure out these characters? 🤷🏻‍♀️📚🤷🏻‍♀️

Two feuding families on a set of tiny Maine islands, Communist spy intrigue ... two stories I'm not sure work in the same book, honestly.

Cinfhen Yea, this book was difficult to read & review! Not very memorable, either😬 8y
ReadingEnvy When I finally tackled a longer Goodreads review I finally decided that it was three different books that didn't really go together. 8y

Debut and beautifully written but not a book that held my attention or captured my heart. It's a story set in the mid 1960's involving two families who share a small island off the coast of Maine. They are wealthy and privileged but beneath their perfect appearances they are a miserable bunch. The story moves slowly but not in a good way. There is no real resolutions and I was glad when this book reached its conclusion. #IndiePublisher

Soubhiville Wow you're tearing through that challenge! Good for you! 8y
LauraBeth Look at all those bingo squares! 👏👏 8y
ValerieAndBooks @cinfhen So the mention of Merion Cricket Club didn't make it worthwhile reading? Ah well! Hope the next book you pick up is better 😊 ( @DivineDiana ) 8y

"She had awoken this morning to a terrible sense of foreboding, as if something black had hidden itself inside this gorgeous day. One could not know in advance what exactly this intuition was or what it meant- one could only react once the catastrophe had revealed itself." Ooooh, I think we're FINALLY getting to the good stuff!!!

Suet624 I hate that feeling. 8y
saresmoore What @Suet624 said! Maybe this is why I don't tend to read thrillers. 8y
Cinfhen This book isn't a thriller, it's a total bore @saresmoore NOTHING happens😠 8y

Suet624 @saresmoore I have enough thrills and suspense and foreboding in my own life. 😁😡 8y

Not sure what's going on in this novel quite yet, but my hometown is where the character Lilia is from 😊so that counts for something 💖#NetGalley

DivineDiana @Cinfhen 😀Love a local reference! Had not heard of this one. 8y
Cinfhen The book is pretty dry so far @ValerieAndBooks @DivineDiana Mention of the Merion Cricket Club was the most exciting part, thus far and I'm on page 89 already! (edited) 8y
