Ghost in the Shell Volume 1
Ghost in the Shell Volume 1 | Shirow Masamune
11 posts | 15 read | 11 to read
Deep into the twenty-first century, the line between man and machine has been inexorably blurred as humans rely on the enhancement of mechanical implants and robots are upgraded with human tissue. In this rapidly converging landscape, cyborg superagent Major Motoko Kusanagi is charged to track down the craftiest and most dangerous terrorists and cybercriminals, including ghost hackers who are capable of exploiting the human/machine interface and reprogramming humans to become puppets to carry out the hackers criminal ends. When Major Kusanagi tracks the cybertrail of one such master hacker, the Puppeteer, her quest leads her into a world beyond information and technology where the very nature of consciousness and the human soul are turned upside down. From Shirow Masamune, the award-winning creator of Appleseed and Dominion, comes The Ghost in the Shell, the breakthrough manga that inspired the internationally acclaimed animated film. An epic dystopian tale of politics, technology, and metaphysics, The Ghost in the Shell has been hailed worldwide as an unparalleled visionary work of graphic fiction. And now it s ready to dazzle the imagination in its second millennium. This edition includes a new Introduction from Dark Horse publisher Mike Richardson, and a fascinating Postscript from author Shirow Masamune, with his thoughts on the phenomenon that is The Ghost in the Shell!"

Here's my TBR today! I've been working on both books for awhile but haven't gotten very far because of school work. Today is the day! One is my #restingbookface book so I should be sending it out in the mail this week 😊😊😊

Keeping it old school for movie time! Anyone seen the new version yet? I'm curious to see how it translates across into live action.

julesG Daft Punk comes to mind. Never seen the film, though. 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I love the original movie and Stand Alone Complex SO MUCH that I'm nervous about this live action take. 8y
deirdrebeecher One of the Mythbusters does a vlog called tested and he visited Weta special effects in New Zealand to see the props for ghost in the shell. If they are anything to go by I would say it is going to be visually stunning, because they were amazing. 8y

TheLondonBookworm @julesG They wrote the screen play for Interstella 5555 right? And obviously their soundtrack for Tron was pretty sweet to! :) 8y

I think I like this? The cyberpunk Blade Runner/Judge Dredd/MI-5 combination was a definite plus but it took a long time before I managed to figured out how the team worked, what the Kuchikomas were (the mini-issue where the Kuchikomas discussed the Revolt of the Robots was hilarious), and where the plot might (?) be going. Didn't like the hoochie-pants garters-and-lingerie-plus-giant racks on all the female "characters". #24in48 #readathon book4
