The maker of such youth-oriented films as Drugstore Cowboy and To Die For offers an unconventional novel--a melange of typefaces, footnotes, and drawings--about a commercial maker who is transported to a magic realm. A first novel. Tour.

Pickpick

There are no real words to describe this book, just like there are no true words to describe going into the Pink. It is a study of life and death and love. It is a study of the film industry. It is all of Van Sant's theories of where his friend River Phoenix went after his untimely death. But what really makes this book special is the humor. This book is a comforting blend of theory and fictional pop art.

Life isn't a singular experience, it is collective, like atomic structures.

The placing of the camera is something that one learns how to do patiently. It doesn't come all at once. It comes about after working for years, and even then it comes slowly. You slowly figure out there is more than one way to sell a potato peeler.

"When he died I found myself searching for a way to make sense of it. So I tries thinking like this...Suppose Felix and I attend a party together and Felix begins talking to a girl in one corner of the room while I strike up a conversation with some old friends in another corner... he walks over to me and whispers in my ear that he is going to leave with the girl and will see me later... we're all leaving the party, only he left early.
