I read her first book "Blood and Beauty", and the this one. Very tumultuous time, the Catholic church embroiled in deceit, corruption and war. The books were fictional accounts of the Borgia family, Rodrigo, Cesare and Lucrezia. Such intrigue, murder and mayhem. And also wrapped in this was the fact that syphilis reared its poison in this family and many others. The French landed in Naples and this disease spread like wildfire. A fascinating time

Sarah Dunant writes great historical novels about the Italian Renaissance. This book continues the story about the Borgias, that Dunant started in Blood & Beauty.
Just as I expected I loved this book. And after reading this I can't wait to go to Italy in a few weeks 😄

Here's my #howIread for #riotgrams - I think I'm about 50:50 ebooks vs actual books. I read mostly on my kindle or iPad on the train to work, but more real books at home. But if I'm away for a night I've usually got a book-book with me as well.

Lucrezia Borgia is my spirit animal.

Birth, coupling, death. The more she thinks about it, the more it seems that that is all there is; a wheel turning over and over, moving so fast that sometimes you cannot even make out the spokes . It is a wonder there is any room for poetry.

I am endlessly fascinated with the Borgias. Dunant revisits the family in her newest novel. Not sure if I'll read or listen. @penguinrandomhouse

Fascinating historical detail, but the story ultimately fails to captivate. Telling the story of the famous Borgia family during the years of 1502 to 1503, the characters make for a historically fascinating book, but I wanted more. More drama, more conspiracy, more romance. Just more all around. I read an ARC copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
