Perils of Pleasure
Perils of Pleasure | Julie Anne Long
A rescued rogue . . . Scandal has rocked the city of London. Colin Eversea, a handsome, reckless unapologetic rogue is sentenced to hang for murder and, inconveniently for him, the only witness to the crime disappears. Then again, throughout history, the Everseas have always managed to cheat fate in style: Colin is snatched from the gallows by a beautiful, clever mercenary.A captivating captor. . . Cool-headed, daring Madeleine Greenway is immune to Colin's vaunted charm. Her mission is not to rescue Colin but to kidnap him, and to be paid handsomely for it. But when it becomes clear that whoever wants Colin alive wants Madeline dead, the two become uneasy allies in a deadly race for truth. Together, they'll face great danger and a passion neither can resist."

Pickpick

The Pennyroyal Green series is absolutely incomparable. Although I love the Bridgertons, they have nothing on the Everseas and the Redmonds. Their rivalry, their unfailing support in the face of hardship, and their commitment to protecting one another are realistic sibling struggles. A bold rescue from the gallows that escalates into a game of cat and mouse with forced proximity, desperate measures, and breathtaking acts of courage.

Another favorite historical romance series of mine. It's an 11 book series.

And currently the first book in the series is a free kindle ebook. Not sure for how long, but I highly recommend.

Pickpick

Definitely on the line between pick and so-so, but I'm rounding up because I really appreciate the lack of corny or offensive euphemisms. It's always a risk with a new-to-me #romantsy author.

ChasingOm YES! I hate it when they use those. I'm a big girl, I can read what you really mean. 🙄😂 7y
robinb Sorry it wasn't so great for you @DGRachel. Hopefully you'll like them better as you go along. 7y
DGRachel @robinb It wasn't bad, just not as light and funny as I had hoped for. Truly, though, I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate the lack of ridiculous euphemisms. I've already started the second book and I'm enjoying this story more already. 😊 7y

robinb @DGRachel oh good! And I know what you mean. Some of those hr writers can be really annoying that way. I've sometimes felt like throwing my Kindle across the room at some of the ridiculous phrases/passages. 🙄😩😬 7y
EloisaJames Try one of her contemporaries--they're really funny! And super emotional, too. 7y
DGRachel @EloisaJames Thanks! I don't remember seeing any if those at the used book store, but I'll take another look. 😊 7y

Starting this #romantsy tonight, but I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. I don't think I'll be pulling another all-nighter like I did last night. 😴

This one has been sitting on my TBR for a while...

robinb Love her writing! 8y
AmandaMarie @robinb I've only read one of her contemporary books but I really enjoyed it! 8y
robinb @AmandaMarie I've mostly read her historical romances but do have a couple of her contemporaries on my TBR list. I also ❤️ her Captain Lacey historical mystery series (writing as Ashley Gardner). 8y

I have been in a book slump and picked this up. I read it in a few hours and am now on book 2. A perfect read to escape whatever you are looking to avoid!

Mehso-so

Recently I wrote a post on @bookriot about how romance is usually my go-to to cure a reading slump (find it at http://bit.ly/2enswuS !). Sadly, this romance almost didn't do it for me. The characters were very well-rounded and intriguing, but the staid, measured writing style meant we went through a high-stakes mystery/thriller plot at a snails pace. Intelligently written, but slooooooow.★★★☆☆.

Carol Ugh that's the worst. If we're going to be driven by plot, we want to go full-throttle, authors! 8y
Sharanya @Carol Seriously! Especially in a romance. I'm not usually here for plot, but if you're gonna do it, do it all the way! 8y
