Hippolyte's Island
Hippolyte's Island: An Illustrated Novel | Barbara Hodgson
In search of a new adventure, Hippolyte Webb, quixotic spirit, modern-day explorer, and natural historian, sets his sights on the Auroras, a group of tiny islands in the middle of the South Atlantic. His destination wouldn't be so unusual, except that these islands were last spotted almost two hundred years ago. Equipped with a centuries-old map, an inadequate sailboat, and an advance payment for a book about his quest, Hippolyte embarks on an unforgettable voyage, not just through unfamiliar seas but through the uncharted territory of his own mind and heart. This new novel by the author of The Sensualist and The Tattooed Maplavishly illustrated with over forty illustrationsis an enigmatic tale bridging the space that lies between what we believe and what we know.

Caught up on grad school work for the moment, so spending a relaxed Sunday morning with a turtle latte (extra shot, always 😆), some birthday cake bites, and returning to this book 📖

shortsarahrose @Bklover it‘s within walking distance from my house! Great when the weather is decent (it‘s sunny today!) and I need fresh air, coffee, and time with a book. 10mo

“With a tap of the compass and a slight nudge of the wheel to correct the course, he went below. The tight confines of the bunk could barely contain his broken dreams. He flung out his arm, a subconscious response to a vestigial desire invading his sleep, but instead of drawing a warm body to him, he slammed his hand against the side of the hull, and awoke in screaming pain.”

I only need to finish one more book to hit my Goodreads goal of 22. So what do I do? Pick up one of the books I‘m already reading to finish? No! I start reading one of the books I got yesterday 😆

Today‘s #BookHaul from Half Price Books - spending some of my Christmas money from my grandparents. Also went to Homegoods because I got a gift card from my Mom.

AnnCrystal HomeGoods! We 💝 that store! A great treasure hunt. Did you find any books? They're usually hidden and difficult to find. 11mo
shortsarahrose @AnnCrystal I saw some children‘s books at Homegoods, but I ended up spending my gift card on a chair for my cat and a cute pillow. 11mo
AnnCrystal @shortsarahrose 💕😻💝☺️👍. Lucky Kitty Cat 🐈💝!

HomeGoods does have a splendid pet department! I look at the pet supplies just for the cuteness of the items. Saw a doll (mannequin) cat scratcher once.

Their books are hidden throughout their store. A real hassle, really.

HomeGoods seems to have the cutest and prettiest pillows around...I always have to “avoid“ their pillow selection or I'd “discover“ another comfy cozy I just love 😂.

Confession: I bought this book only because it's filled with weird maps and peculiar illustrations of penguins and whales 🐳🐧 I'm sure in between those pages there is a decent story about an island...🌴#setonanisland @RealLifeReading

"His knowledge gave him the freedom to wander at will, to challenge the unknown, to lose himself."

You could easily replace "knowledge" with "books." ?
