Race and Popular Fantasy Literature is a very necessary analysis of the race and fantasy works through the lens of critical whiteness studies (long overdue!). I think non-academic will not find this inaccessible.
Plucked: The History of Hair Removal is still on my tbr, but I love cultural studies of the body! Hope Herzig looks at the connection to gender and race.
