Memoirs of a Sword Swallower (Photo Illustrated)
Memoirs of a Sword Swallower (Photo Illustrated) | Daniel P Mannix
2 posts | 4 to read
Biography. Popular Culture. America's leading fire-eater recounts his life as a carny. Includes 58 photos from Mannix's private archive. A sympathetic and funny account of life with a carnival by a young man who impulsively joined up with one, mastered the elements of fire-eating and sword-swallowing in record time, and then rose, Horatio Alger-like, into the rarified company of neon-bulb swallowers...it's engrossing. -- The New Yorker.

This book is my #recommends day pick and I guess it also covers the memoir photo challenge. The author talks about life in a sideshow. Sideshows have always fascinated me. If I had lived during the 20th century American Depression I would have worked in one to help out my family. I have enough crazy things going on with my body that would have made me a draw for curiosity seekers. Now I use what I have to help others and possibly find cures.

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Cool! Sounds like a fascinating memoir. 8y
