Street of a Thousand Blossoms
Street of a Thousand Blossoms | Gail Tsukiyama
It is Tokyo in 1939. On the Street of a Thousand Blossoms, two orphaned brothers dream of a future firmly rooted in tradition. The older boy, Hiroshi, shows early signs of promise at the national obsession of sumo wrestling, while Kenji is fascinated by the art of Noh theater masks. But as the ripples of war spread to their quiet neighborhood, the brothers must put their dreams on hold and forge their own paths in a new Japan. Meanwhile, the two young daughters of a renowned sumo master find their lives increasingly intertwined with the fortunes of their father's star pupil, Hiroshi."The Street of a Thousand Blossoms" is a powerfully moving masterpiece about tradition and change, loss and renewal, and love and family from a glorious storyteller at the height of her powers."

Bailedbailed

Bailed on this one. I wanted to love it, but it just didn't catch my interest. The prose was beautifully written, my attention was just elsewhere.

“...success is not handed to you. You must work hard for it and you must never dishonor what you‘ve achieved.” pg. 222

As someone who struggles with impostor syndrome, this quote heavily resonates with me. I hope to remember it during my moments of self-doubt so I “never dishonor what I‘ve achieved”.

It‘s been raining so much in our city, people have started to wonder whether we‘ve turned into Seattle!(Not that that‘s a bad thing, many coffee lovers here would love to have more of Seattle‘s quality of coffee in our area) This has been the first week since Feb. we‘ve had no rain all week. So, in honor of this nice weather, I‘ve been enjoying the brightness of the sun inside with this new read...like a true, introverted bookworm!😆
