A good, though sad read. The dialect/slang was difficult for me - I kept having to ask my kids what things meant. My daughter said say it out loud and it will help- but not really whilst on the bus!

I'm finding it difficult to review this - would make a great book club read so you can actually talk through it.
Awesome debut - so many perspectives covered in this book, a lot of food for thought in there.
New, modern, very sad and certainly a voice for the future.

Struggling with some of the dialect but that's because I'm old. I've asked my daughter a lot of stuff and she told me to read it out loud and that would help! It does - but not recommended for the bus or in the office. Compelling story so far.
Breathtaking debut novel told in letters between a young Black man in prison and his friends and family (with a few court transcripts.) The voice of every character is stunning, while the book is an entertaining, at times heartbreaking, and always deeply thought-provoking story of Black masculinity, injustice, life in prison and on the streets, and of being the child of a single mother. It builds to an incredible climax - a truly superb read.
