A thought provoking, intelligent and at times laugh-out-laugh funny debut novel exploring black masculinity in today's society. From the author of Prisoner to the Streets.

A good, though sad read. The dialect/slang was difficult for me - I kept having to ask my kids what things meant. My daughter said say it out loud and it will help- but not really whilst on the bus!

Velvetfur Hahaha! Just whisper it out loud on the bus, no one will hear you! 😂 6y
Cinfhen Ha!! You‘d be THAT crazy lady talking shit on the bus!!! 6y
Cinfhen I really hope to meet your kids one day! They sound awesome 💕💕 6y

I'm finding it difficult to review this - would make a great book club read so you can actually talk through it.
Awesome debut - so many perspectives covered in this book, a lot of food for thought in there.
New, modern, very sad and certainly a voice for the future.

shawnmooney I'm sure as heck intrigued! Stacked! 7y

Struggling with some of the dialect but that's because I'm old. I've asked my daughter a lot of stuff and she told me to read it out loud and that would help! It does - but not recommended for the bus or in the office. Compelling story so far.

EchoLogical Sounds like an interesting read! #Stacked 7y
minkyb You never know, maybe passengers would enjoy someone reading aloud to them. 🤔 7y
minkyb Don't you love asking your daughter a book question? 😍 7y
TrishB @minkyb she picked this one for me off the tbr pile, keeping me current!! I'm not quite sure how a fake cockney young persons slang type accent would sound like coming from me....be a Youtube sensation for all the wrong reasons I think! 7y

Breathtaking debut novel told in letters between a young Black man in prison and his friends and family (with a few court transcripts.) The voice of every character is stunning, while the book is an entertaining, at times heartbreaking, and always deeply thought-provoking story of Black masculinity, injustice, life in prison and on the streets, and of being the child of a single mother. It builds to an incredible climax - a truly superb read.

TrishB Great review, sounds really interesting! 8y
