This Dystopian novel deals with rape, child slavery, violence, and death. It embraces the nastiness of greed, and a broken society in ruins.
For this reason I'd easily rate it PG-15. A thought provoking novel, that had me clinging to every word, loving Vee & Cason, & dying to know what happens next! What can I say? I'm a sucker for a GREAT Dystopian.
This book got me in the feels so much... I was so hungover from it...
pickSet in a dystopian world (those two words are enough to make me pick a book up) parents are forced to surrender their children to work at the farms and mills or pay an extortionate tax. A fatal accident sees the main character, Vee running for her life and triggers a chain of events that may change the whole world forever. I loved this book!! So many twists and turns! I can't recommend enough.
After a financial collapse devastates the US, the government imposes a tax on the nation‘s most valuable resource—the children.
After her parents could no longer afford her exorbitant fees—Vee has spent six hard years at the Mills. When she discovers unspeakable things happening to the younger girls in service, she takes a stand, a decision that lands her on the run for the first time since the System robbed her of her liberty.
