“The monks stirred and the pot bubbled. How good it smelled! How good it would taste! How giving the villagers had become!”
“The monks stirred and the pot bubbled. How good it smelled! How good it would taste! How giving the villagers had become!”
This was my favorite part of the plot, gathering together eating a meal to share even though they did not want to in the first place. This handed down an important value of a culture.
This was actually my first time reading this European folk story. I like the moral of the story about sharing. It was nice of the villagers to invite the monks in and feed them. It‘s almost like thanksgiving.
"Stone Soup" has its traditional roots in European folklore. This wonderful TL teaches the importance of opening your heart to give to others/ sharing. I love the watercolor illustrations too! Check out this great resource of text dependent qs and other activities that go along perfectly with the book and standards #UCFLAE3414su17 http://achievethecore.org/content/upload/3.%20Stone%20Soup.%20lesson%20-%20Basal...

My baby will be 23 this year so some of these may be out of print but they are among our favorites. I especially love Let's Eat by Ana Zamorano, illustrated by Julie Vivas who did some of Mem Fox's stuff.
