Fascinating. The daily life of the author and his family is shown to the reader in intricate detail, from cooking and eating to clothing and sewing, to sleeping arrangements and cleaning. I was most intrigued by seeing how the author learned, what he read, and what and how he was taught.

Fascinating reading about Jewish life in the boroughs of New York City. I learned a little first hand when I lived in New York for 15 years in the nineties and early in the new century, until 2003. This is answering many of my questions and I am enjoying it.

I have been soaking up fiction, non-fiction, & memoirs of NYC recently. Enjoying this 1951 memoir of a Jewish neighborhood and how books, reading, & libraries influenced the author's life. Love the sense of place in this book.
