Vampire Hunter D Volume 1 | Hideyuki Kikuchi, Yoshitaka Amano
4 posts | 7 read | 5 to read
12,090 A.D. It is a dark time for the world. Humanity is just crawling out from under three hundred years of domination by the race of vampires known as the Nobility. The war against the vampires has taken its toll; cities lie in ruin, the countryside is fragmented into small villages and fiefdoms that still struggle against nightly raids by the fallen vampires-and the remnants of their genetically manufactured demons and werewolves. Every village wants a Hunter-one of the warriors who have pledged their laser guns and their swords to the eradication of the Nobility. But some Hunters are better than others, and some bring their own kind of danger with them... From creator Hideyuki Kikuchi, one of Japan's leading horror authors with illustrations by renowned Japanese artist, Yoshitaka Amano, best known for his illustrations in Neil Gaiman's Sandman: The Dream Hunters and the Final Fantasy games.

🎧 Vampire Hunter D has been around for DECADES. Times have changed.

I really enjoyed this book!

It‘s 12091 & vampires known as the Nobility have ruled the land for quite awhile, humans are just getting their foothold back. This is sci-fi/horror.

Bitten by a vampire a young girl named Doris seeks a vampire hunter to kill the one who bit her (and that dirty old vampire deserves it).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👇🏻

Twainy She finds D, an equally young dhampire. It‘s just her & her younger brother on their homestead. Her community has different ideas including but not limited to marrying her off to the town bully.

The relationship between this spunky young lady, her brother & the semi-immortal D grows. It‘s a little predictable due to the tropes but I loved it! I see there‘s more books, I look forward to listening to them also!

Enjoyed! Pub date - 2/15/22.

I really enjoyed the Vampire Hunter D movies a few years back but I feel like the novel was pretty lacking. I'm not sure if it's Kikuchi's inherent writing style or the translation but the writing style is distractingly over-descriptive but also doesn't do a great job of establishing atmosphere. a shame, since I like the bizarre setting. I'm also unsure if this is rough writing due to it being the 1st in a 20-something book series.

I read novelized version. Fun mix of horror, dystopia, YA, paranormal, western, steampunk, adventure, & romance! Violence & gore, very little romance but sexual violence so beware. Typical stoic tsundere hero. Enjoyed it a lot!

I enjoyed the anime film, and was totally excited for the book translations, with illustrations by Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano. The steampunk vampire imagination of Hideyuki Kikuchi is incredibly epic! Strange creatures and samurai sword battles through the series keeps the thrill for more. D's quest with Doris is a memorable best; a story of its own, worth many rereads.
