Thrifty find! Fallon is a staunch advocate of traditional over processed foods; basic message is eat whole foods in moderation. I like that approach, but caveat it‘s preachy in tone and you have to take the science offered with a grain of salt *pun*, given the pub date and bias. Also, I‘m not inclined to grind my own grains and many people on a tight budget may find some of the ideas beyond their means and/or ability to source.

Tamra P.S. I‘m not going to eat offal or brains, despite the nutritional value, unless it‘s in a highly processed form like a hot dog! 😜 3y

Lcsmcat Did you try any of the lacto-fermented recipes? I keep seeing this pop up as a good source for them, but your review has me a little concerned about quality and safety. 1y
Tamra @Lcsmcat I haven‘t tried them, so I can‘t vouch. I have fermented foods from other recipes/books before and had varying success. So good for your biome is my understanding. 1y

Post-holidays, we‘re all in the mood for something sharp and fresh, like ginger carrots.

I like this book: it advocates passionately for a diet that avoids processed foods and includes saturated fats, sprouted grains and seeds, bone broths, and natural fermentation.

I make no effort to evaluate the merits of the nutrition science, but the recipes are easy, unusual, and satisfying.

(Illustrations are B&W, but it‘s my book so I get to color it!)

#TBRtemptation post 6! This is a really thick cookbook, so there's plenty to be found within its depths. The nutrition researcher and culinary entrepreneur looks at historical food customs with health in mind. The 700+ recipes she proffers are for exacting gourmets and busy parents alike. There's a wealth of nutrition info, research summaries, and serving suggestions, to accompany those recipes. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
