My absolute favorite thing about this book was the illustrations and how the illustrations made the book really speak to you. I think this is such a great read for children. It portrays as a funny/comical book that a lot of children would enjoy. Overall, the illustrations in this book speak for itself on top of the text intertwined.

This traditional literature story is a caldecott award winner. A fun thing to do with this story is to use it for story telling. This book teaches lessons and students are always engaged in a quality storytelling. https://www.readingrockets.org/literacyapps/multimedia-composition #UCFLAE3414SP21 UDL 1.2 is used by giving students an auditory way to read the book

This book, a Caldecott award winner, is a story about an old lady who kept swallowing animals to catch the animal she swallowed before it.

I would use this book in my future classroom, because it can get a quiet, more relaxed, classroom more excited and energetic due to how fun and silly you can make your voice while reading it.

I don't know why she swallowed the fly. Perhaps she'll die.

Loved the illustrations and set up of the book with different size holes inside of it. Would just be a good enjoyable read for kids when in the mood for a laugh.

Tonight, we read “There was an old lady who swallowed a fly” by Simms Taback. This is a fiction picture book that won the silver Caldecott award. It‘s about a Lady who started off swallowing a fly, and no one knows why. She then continues to swallow a bunch of animals. She starts off eating small animals that catch one another and gradually increases to eating big ones until she dies. #ucflae3414su19

DeannaP This would be a good book for students who are still learning their animals, learning sizes, sequences or are learning how to rhyme. An ESOL strategy that could go along with this book would be to “continually monitor students‘ comprehension” I could do this by asking which animals she ate before reading the new one she eats.  A lesson that could go with this book is where the students change the ending of the book. 5y
DeannaP https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/there-was-old-... An ED strategy to go with this would be to clarify syntax and structure. We can discuss as a class the word choice the author used and how it was set up. 5y
Macker11 Scholastic really has some great resources! I like the idea of rewriting the ending! 5y
DrSpalding I love that you read these books to your son! He will be a wonderful little person to test out great books on! Traditional literature is wonderful for storytelling. 5y

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly illustrated by Pam Adams is a traditional literature picture book that would be perfect for a story telling! Above is my visuals used for when I did a story telling https://sunflowerstorytime.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/there-was-an-old-lady1.pd... This story telling activity would work well with the ESOL strategy 17 of using audio visuals, models, body language, and demonstrations.

Gabylaurel10 This book also works well with UDL strategies 5.1 and 5.2 of having multiple media and tools for communication, construction, and composition. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y

#picturebooklove #17booklove love this version of this story. The eyes close when you turn the last page. Slightly macabre maybe...
