I was really intrigued by the beginning, but it turned out pretty predictably. As the 1st book, a lot is left unresolved. For Maze Runner, Lord of the Flies, Hunger Games, and Percy Jackson fans.
Some points of interest: strong emphasis on friendship; no romance; protagonist with selective mutism.

Purchased at exactly 12:01. Yes, I read the plot summary when it came out, but nostalgia has always had its hooks in me.

Well, I did not manage much this weekend, but I did my best. 200 pages into The Rook. Now it's starting to remind me a little of S. by JJ Abrams.

This was a fantastic book. Like if Lemony Snicket wrote The Magicians. For similar, also try Uprooted by Naomi Novik, or any pictured.

I've only read about 2 hours (there are surprisingly few hours in the day), but I'm enjoying the book. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children meets The Assassination Bureau, Ltd.

Good so far--supernatural bureaucracy meets Memento. But I am sleepy, so I'll be back after work and Ghostbusters tomorrow.

I'm going to be participating in the @24in48 readathon in a few hours--I definitely won't have time to read the full 24, but I'll do as much as I can. These are what's next in the queue.

I really loved this one a lot. It's the perfect intersection between magic and science; it's funny, it's charming, and ultimately hopeful. I'm just going to list things until you're hooked: two-second time machines, shapeshifting, morality discussions, and a counselor/assassin sobbing into icecream.

I just started this book over lunch, but I'm enjoying it a lot! The tone of it reminds me a little of The Sword in the Stone by TH White.

I liked the middle a lot. The ending was a little more theoretical than I wanted.
