Dust Bath Revival | Marianne Kirby

I'm about halfway through with the book and really enjoying it. A queer lead character, zombies, creepy religious stuff, surviving in the woods - it's awesome!

It says this is book one of a series, and it seems like I'm hooked already. Marianne Kirby has done a really good job here. #womenwriters #mariannekirby #dustbathrevival #queerleads #zombies

Bibliogeekery Sounds good! #queerbooks 8y

I'm starting this book tonight and am very excited about it. I've got tea, a blanket, and it's finally cold-ish here in Houston. I will buy whatever kind of art Marianne Kirby makes. I'm a fan girl and just fine with that. Feeling really excited and proud of her right now! #womenwriters #mariannekirby #dustbathrevival

I'm throwing in the towel!

I tried, but this book isn't for me. I'm shocked that I didn't like it. Everything about it seems perfect for me, but I was just bored all the way through. Maybe if I had read all the essays individually it would have been different, but together they just weren't fluid or compelling. Sad face.

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I had kind of a similar reaction. Thought I would love it but found it underwhelming. I think some of them were great timely blog posts when they were originally written but didn't have staying power. 8y
monalyisha Have you read "Shrill"? So good! 7y
radicalbodylove @monalyisha Yes! I liked it much better. I'm actually going to see Roxanne Gay on Monday. She's reading from her new book and I have a good feeling about this one. 7y
monalyisha @radicalbodylove Very cool! I've heard only good things. Enjoy! 7y

Just started the audiobook today. So far it's interesting. Nothing earthshattering, but we'll see how it goes. #womenwriters #feminism

The Lowland | Jhumpa Lahiri

So far, so good! I'm not surprised, since I always like reading Jhumpa Lahiri, but it's always nice to start reading and be immediately into the book. I can tell this is going to be good :)

I really liked this book! It's a personal account of Carrot's thru-hike of the PCT, which runs from Mexico to Canada on the west coast. Carrot's writing is informal, personal, authentic, and it feels like she's sitting with you telling you stories about her adventure. I'm into hiking, so I love reading about big thru-hikes like this. It's easy to read and really fun to hear about being on the trail. It makes me want to get out there!

I'm only a little ways into this book, but I'm already wondering why I'm reading a book about a man who comes into a woman's longterm homestead, feels contempt for her, and then eventually stays there for only 6 months in order to write this book. why am I not reading a book by this woman? I'd like to hear her story! #12x12

A good read! Gets into diet culture and feminism in a way that's easy for people who are new to the topics to understand. #dietland #saraiwalker #effdietculture #radicalbodylove #feministbooks #feminism
