Starting my 2020 reading with a nice and easy set of some of my fave historical comics! The art is cute, the jokes are funny, and I‘ve never cared for history myself but some of her strips made me interested in looking up more info about some of the jokes. If you like historical humour, it‘s a definite recommendation.

i have mixed feelings. i get what the author was going for, and i think he did an okay job of it, but there‘s a difference between “not getting every answer” and “not getting any answer”. it‘s easy to write an intriguing story if you don‘t have to tie up the loose ends - a better book would be equally intriguing, but actually answer some questions.

Oof. This was at times brutal and at times weirdly uplifting. It was slower paced than you might think (given the subject and especially given the way it opens), but I enjoyed that a lot. Much more character driven than plot driven but if that's your jam I highly recommend this!

I had some issues with this book in the beginning—it was so slow to start!—but by the end I was completely hooked. I had a feeling I knew how it would end and I was pretty much right (minus some details) but it was a pretty intense ride to get there! My heart is going to be broken for a pretty long time over this one. A highly recommended read.

I had some issues with the pacing and I thought that the magic system was a little silly, but I fell in love with the characters (especially Helen!) and I'm really looking forward to seeing what else Goodman has in store for them all.
