Annnndddd...I finished it. I don't know what it was about the book that made me put it down - pick it up - put it down again over and over ad nauseum. It hit all my triggers - old English estate, evil stepmother, hidden love and ultimately a mystery that was kept well under wraps until the last third of the book. I don't know if it was the time period it took place in (late 60's and 90's) or the characters themselves that made it hard to finish.
I am bound and determined to finish this book today. I've inly been lingering over it since March.
It was a quick read and kept me guessing until the very end. I'm still processing my feelings about it, but I feel that has more to do with my own triggers then the book itself. If you like southern gothic with just a teeny tiny sprinkle of maybe ghostly things happening, you'll enjoy it.
I absolutely loved everything about this book, the world building how it was essentially anchored in our own, the relationship between the two leads and even the questions it left unanswered. I can not wait for the next one. Even though I listened to the book on audible, I went out and purchased the hardcover for my collection.
I love this book so far. I purchased the audio book, which I have 3 hours left til the end. But I will buy the hardcover and possibly the paperback.
Today's book and tea: The Last One by Alexandra Oliva. I have less than 100 pages left, and besides taking a break to binge watch Stranger Things, I'm really enjoying it. (But then again, it's hard for me to find a pandemic novel I don't love) #bookstagram #book #teastagram #tea
I enjoyed the book, it kept me interested the whole time. It did read a bit like a screenplay so I was not surprised to find out a movie is in the works. And I managed to finish the book just as I sipped my last sip of tea! Synchronicity! 😜
I always have 2 or 3 books going at once and listening to a book is no different. #aheadfullofghosts #audible #obeetaybee
