So glad the author surprised us with this novella in the Shadowshaper series! I really appreciated how he took the real life issue about marginalized victims of crime receiving less attention from media and local police and turned it into a heartbreaking but captivating read. While we don't have Tee's shadowshaping ability, we do have empathy and resilience to change the world in a positive way. #latinx #ownvoices #diversereads

After recommendations from two friends (and a kind gift from one of them), I read this book. I had no idea there was a genre of "pre-apocalyptic" books. Watching the events unfold (the earth's rotation keeps slowing) was in some ways more terrifying than whatever the protagonist knows by the novel's end. A stunning, heartbreaking read.

I laughed. I cried. I romance-d. Such a delightful read! Many thanks to the YPG mailing and wonderful word of mouth that got this book into my hands. 😊

Finally finished this last night. I bought it at a release day party hosted by the author, and it was wonderful being able to support and read an #ownvoices narrative. Alex's relationship to her magic has parallels to my own relationship to my ethnic and racial identities. Oh, and the book itself is fantastic. 😍📚
