An entertaining read but I expected much more. It started off great and I was excited to see what would happen but as I got to the third chapter I realized that I wasn't going to get what I expected. Maybe it went over my head 🤷🏼‍♀️

I enjoyed this book so much! It was something completely different than I usually read and I'm so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone. I was looking for a new world to escape to this book delivered. Wanting to get out of 2020 like me? This should do the trick. Starting The Wise Man's Fear next.

Stepping outside of my normal genres for this one.

Parable of the Talents | Octavia E. Butler

I really enjoyed this book. It took me forever to finish but not from lack of interest. I can't believe how in line it is with what has happened in the last decade or so, albeit the US in the book is still much worse. At some points I wondered if Octavia Butler could tell the future...

Overall I liked this book. There are a couple of problematic themes that come with the time it was written in, but enjoyable and relatable none the less.

Off to a good start on my 2020 reading challenge from Popsugar. I'm starting Parable of the Talents to check off a couple more.
Any suggestions for me??

Amazing read! I didn't expect anything less from this author.

Most of the information I had found before reading this book was anecdotal or based on old wive's tales. This book, which has information based on scientific studies, was extremely interesting and I will be coming back to sections of this book for years to come.

So interesting! I got lost a little bit when the author would go into military strategy but he always brought it back to the drugs and pulled me right back in.

98% of this book was great. I really enjoyed the plot with its twists and turns but the end left something to be desired. A bit anticlimactic but still an entertaining read. I still recommend if you want a pretty quick easy read.

My due date is approaching so I'm switching gears. 🤰👶Any other book recommendations for a soon to be first time mom??

Although it took me forever to get through I enjoyed it. I listened to a podcast recently that discussed people's empathy towards serial killers and this book was an example of that. Ann held out her belief in his innocence for as long as she could but even when she finally came to terms with his guilt she empathized with him.

This book was great! The author really humanized all the characters in the story and I related to them even though I've never been through anything even remotely similar to what they went through. It's a nonfiction book but instead of throwing fact after fact at the reader the narrative is smooth and tells as a fiction story. Highly recommend!

I enjoyed reading this book and had a hard time putting it down at times. Although I have to admit, I'm no movie buff so I was clueless to all of the movie references and thought there to be too many. Other than that it was great!

I really enjoyed this book even though it was heartbreaking. I recognized many of the feelings portrayed by the girls l, albeit less intensely, in myself and friends.

I'm not sure why but I really had a hard time staying interested in this book, especially about 3/4 of the way through.

This book was a nice surprise. I went into it knowing nothing except that it had been made into a movie that I hadn't seen. Thoroughly entertaining and full of strong women characters.

Nute I love this book! 6y

I try to alternate between fiction and nonfiction books. I Just finished Insomnia by Stephen King so nonfiction is up next.
I'll be reading Between a Rock and A Hard Place which is the story behind the 127 Hours movie, which I haven't seen.

I am always looking for nonfiction recommendations though!

Overall I really enjoyed this book.
There were a couple of points towards the end that were a bit silly and I felt took away from the story, and the epilogue, although it did tie up some loose ends, wasn't completely necessary. But, that's got to be hard to avoid when you've written over 700 pages already!
