It's a book where if you're born differently you get sent away to a place called “The Fringes“, and odd plants get burned and weird animals get killed. The book shows themes of ableism and racism toward those different, the author shows this through writing in a system where those different are sent away and sterilized.

If you like books about a post-apocalyptic society then you'll enjoy the chrysalids, it's a book set after a nuclear war where society has regressed back into believing that the earth is flat and that and sort of disability or “deformity“ is a sin against God (including birthmarks).
