I preface this by stating that my favorite books are about damaged people. Reading about others' ridiculous misadventures and poor choices can help one reflect on her own life. And while the narrator here may be damaged (but is likely just a dick), this book is just pointless, unfunny navel gazing.

Bought it a year ago and immediately shelved it. Half-heartedly started reading it yesterday, and stayed up waaaay past my bedtime to finish it this morning. So damn good.

David Kessler's "A Question of Intent" is my gold standard for exploratory non-fiction; this book doesn't compare. Instead of exposing the larger pill mill epidemic, this book is about one man and his role in a shady business. Verdict: Interesting story; rating downgrade for annoying narration.

This book is silly and pointless, and I loved every word of it!

All the Lasting Things | David Hopson

I love a good dose of pessimism and dysfunctional characters, and this well-written book has plenty of both. However, instead of walking away thinking that, yes, some things do last forever, the overarching theme seems to be: every choice disappoints. Summary -- a beautiful downer.

Read "Me Before You" years ago, and liked it, but after watching the movie recently, I thought maybe I'd been deluding myself... In any event, I was nervous that this follow up would be a cheesy a sequel, and maybe it is, but I actually kinda loved it.

Slightly suspenseful, moderately mysterious, but mostly just a story about a family helmed by a dope.

MrBook Nice cover. Nice review. 8y

I've long had a thing for dysfunctional people, and I'm discovering that a little bit of magic does it for me too, so this book delivers on both accounts. Sad yet mirthful, falling short of gut-wrenching and hysterical, but altogether an enjoyable, quick read.

MrBook I love this title. 8y

I'm torn...this is my 2nd favorite Tana French book (after Broken Harbor). The story was very compelling, but I figured out who done it 50 pages in. Not sure the author should be penalized because I'm a suspense novel genius, but so it goes.

Contrived story that tries a little too hard to be shocking. But as a former good girl who flirted with being out of control, I liked the reflections at the end of the book on what it means to be a mother, daughter, girl and women in this day and age.

Raquel's fury arising from Emma's inserting herself in a situation and place that has little to do with her, mirrors my annoyance at an American author usurping South American disjointed style and magical realism, resulting in a story that feels over-studied yet shallow.

I've never wanted to be 16. When I was 8, I wasn't pining to hurriedly be 16. And when I was 35, I didn't wish I could go back 16 and do it all again. And I sure as hell didn't want to be 16 when I was actually 16. But this book is a wonderful reminder of how awful 16 is and how amazing that is.
