In “A House Divided” by Michael Phillips, Anna Burenin and Katrina Fedorcenko have developed a unique friendship that can‘t be understood by others. The vulnerability and honesty they share with one another gets them through anything and everything. Prince Sergei just announced his love for Anna and once he is back from the war, they plan on marrying.

allison.baptista Katrina, on the other hand, was rejected for the second time by Dmitri and turns her love to the notorious Basil Anakin. His reputation alone is enough to avoid him, but the heart broken Katrina loses all her smart decision making skills and pursues the relationship to a dangerous extent. 2y
allison.baptista If you like books that delve into relationship (both romantic and friendship), as well as integrating an honest and open relationship with God outside of the church, then this book is for you. 2y
allison.baptista The point of view is in the third person objective because the author tells the story through an anonymous voice. We can only infer how the characters are feeling based on what happens in the book, and not on a direct description from the characters themselves. 2y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Allison! This actually looks super awesome! 6/6 2y

Patron Saints of Nothing delves into the life of 17 year old Filipino American Jay Reguero. Currently in a mix of superficial relationships focused on video games and college, Jay feels alone with his big emotions. That being said, we learn of his one true friend and cousin, Jun, in which honesty and compassion are the centrefold of their relationship.

allison.baptista Unfortunately, after Jay moved to the United States, their relationship began to dissolve as the letters sent between the cousins could hardly hold the friendship together. Jay finally didn‘t write back and his cousin ran away from home, turning to drugs. 2y
allison.baptista After hearing his cousin died because of the dictator president‘s intense new political regime to “save” the country, Jay decides to go to the Philippines to find out the whole truth, including whether the end of the letter writing was a trigger to the horrible events that took place. 2y
allison.baptista If you like books that speak to realizing the world is bigger than trivial first world problems and the ways in which we can discover our own truth in a world where everything feels like our fault, then this book is for you. 2y

allison.baptista One of the themes present is culture and belonging. As soon as Jay steps into the Philippines he expresses that he immediately feels more at home around people of the same colour skin. That being said, he also feels like an outsider as he doesn‘t speak Tagalog like everyone else there. He wants to embrace both his cultures but feels like he doesn‘t quite fit in anywhere. 2y
oddandbookish I loved this book! 2y
