There's nothing better than reading by the fire on a cold fall night 😊
Getting back into YA. Has anyone else read this?
When a book begins like this, you know you're in for a wild ride. "You are about to begin reading Italo Calvino's new novel, If on a winter's night a traveler. Relax. Concentrate. Dispel every other thought. Let the world around you fade. Best to close the door; the TV is always on in the next room. Tell the others right away, "No, I don't want to watch TV!" Raise your voice-they won't hear you otherwise-"I'm reading! I don't want to be disturbed!
"It is a strange pressure to be across from a man who wants something that you don't want to give. It's like standing in a forceful current, which at first you think is not too strong, but the longer you stand, the more tired you become, the harder it is to stay upright."
Latest bookstore haul. 🤓 so excited to read all of these!
This book feels just like stepping into a Gilmore Girls episode! I love all of the small town antics and descriptions of New England.
"All those innocents-I didn't wonder about their futures that day as I left the abandoned house. I couldn't know their destinations, their triumphs, their troubles. The ones who integrated themselves into new cities and forgot themselves in new professions, either forming empires grand enough to blot out a past, or failing to thrive because they couldn't get the sound if they'd own blood out of they heads . . . They were children, once."
As a twin I can tell you that this definitely does not happen. 😂
Part of me really wanted to love this book. At times it was so beautifully written I just had to sit and think for a while. However, the book also felt repetitive and a little ridiculous, to be honest. It felt like the author just wanted to pile on as much pain and bad events as she could, for no real reason. I understand Jude being sexually assaulted by one person, but by hundreds of people over the course of his life? That seemed excessive.
A magical read with a truly magical view.
I bought this used and found some goodies from the previous owner. I love moments like this.
