This was a toughie. Ultimately, a so-so end to a good trilogy as I felt the "sacrificial" elements of the plot were oversold and not delivered (or delivered in a bizarre head-scratching twist) and I also think the essential question of the love story- did Kami/Jared exist outside the source relationship- went largely unanswered as the end neatly returned everyone to square one. I recommend this trilogy but be prepared to be perplexed.
Loved this book, caveat that the writer is exploring a culture that I was raised in and telling a story I relate to from my own experiences. This is not a sociological text so much as a memoir trying to grapple with the world as the author perceives it. I'm not sure that you can truly enjoy the book without having some empathy for the people playing a starring role- and they are a people hard to empathize with unless you grew up with them.
Best book I have read this year. Somehow it seems so suited for a year in which we have had such losses as a society and myself as an individual.
Meh. I think this is an early teen vampire romance and deserves some credit being a forerunner but this is pretty close to a short story and the plot is very simple and not terribly compelling. There is a great quote on page 186 about the protagonist attempting to preserve a memory in time. If you want a vampire/teen/romance book, I would recommend LJ Smiths Vampire Diaries 1-3.
