The movie adaption of this book (if happens) is going to have a tough time capturing the looming emotions between the lines... loved how detailed and accurate the author portrayed Asian Americans' lives in the early days (some still apply today).

Two of my favorite quotes from this book: The purpose of being alive is to become the person you are intended to be, to grow out of and into yourself, again and again
A miracle is seeing the world with light in your eyes. It is knowing there is always hope and possibilities when one seems to exist.
This book and couple of others inspired my love for Alaska. I was very touched by the story and the beautiful Alaskan scenery described in the book. I went to Juneau AK summer17, explored Mendenhall glacier and saw Romeo's exhibit in the visitor center. It was quite emotional. I missed Jans' book-signing in Juneau and emailed him about it. He remembered my story and signed another book (The Glacier Wolf) that I ordered from his store!
