I love this cover. I will let you know how I feel about the insides! #anticipation

This is the second page of the book. The main character is fat-shaming or nerd-shaming some other girl. So done!
When I started this book, it didn't pull me in. But by the end, I was in love. I am hesitant to quote any of the beautiful passages, for fear of spoiling the...unexpected nature of the whole thing. Sloan mixes an Indiana Jones like adventure with our world of technobabble in a way that fully demonstrates the beauty of both.
I really wanted to love this book - as a book lover, the premise really spoke to me. My first issue was with the narration - the narrator of the audio version I listened to made the entire book somehow sound like it was written in italics. It was quite strange. Secondly, the magic system in the book was...clunky. The author's decision not to name the elements made her descriptions really awkward and led to a lot of word repetition.
It took me a really long time to listen to this book. I had picked it up because I am a fan of Wilbur Smith, Pauline Gedge, Michelle Moran, etc. I got a really academic read, which is likely my fault. Throughout the book, the author repeats herself A LOT, which got irritating after a while. All in all, maybe a better pick for someone seeking a drier read.
The Book of Negroes is on sale today at Kobo! I love this book, and it has really interesting tie-ins to Nova Scotia history!
I do solemnly swear I will put a serious dent in my #TBR before I buy another book... #commencelaughternow
I finished this book right before I went to sleep last night (Ok, let's be real, I stayed up way past my bedtime and finished this book.) and it left me feeling really...bleak. Then, this morning, I was reading an article about it, and I got weirdly infuriated - the article and the publisher both think this is a book about a prostitute who loves clothes. But it is SO MUCH MORE!
That feeling when you can't decide if you should pick up the next book in the series, or read something in your TBR...
Hey! I just started listening to this book today for free with the BBC! Wanted to let Littens know!! #freebooks
I am loving this book - I think it is kicking my procrastinating self in the ass. It is a quick read, but I am finding its no-nonsense tone helpful for my mid-winter slump.
"She looked like a human representation of a comfortable settee."
This book was pretty stellar, but then I enjoy mostly anything Michelle Moran writes. It delves into aspects of Nefertiti's reign that I didn't know much about at all. Also, it seems to be on sale this week! #historicalfiction #egypt
So excited to start this one! Victoria Woodhull ran for President in the 1870s. Who knew?
Tonight's reads. I'm grateful that the fact that it is freezing outside means I have more incentive to curl up in here!
I started reading this book to begin the new year, as I realized I have a brand new bullet journal at home, and I have first page anxiety. #bujo #perfectionanxiety
I am loving this trilogy so far, I'm glad I picked up the omnibus so I won't have to wait to get into the next book!
"Hell is real, and it smells like Axe body spray." I loved this book, and the rest of the series so I was afraid to watch the TV show. I find that I enjoy it too, as long as I don't compare one to the other.
I enjoyed this book, but I wasn't as immersed in it as I have been with the others in the trilogy. I found the end both satisfying and disappointing.
I was glad to read a book with a strong female character that didn't focus primarily on romantic entanglements without leaving them out of the story entirely.
I listened to this book read by the author and I can't recommend the experience enough, even if you've already read the book in print. Hearing him makes it even more powerful, and his cadence is hypnotic. I hesitate to sound trite, but I think this book changed me. #blacklivesmatter
I found this book in an empty waiting room - the inscription is too beautifully written not to share.
"That's how it was in the beginning, how it was to come to consciousness in this place and in this time and in a world alive, as it seemed, with the music of being."
