The book “Are You My Mother“ is a graphic novel about a single, lonely woman and her flawed relationship with her mother. So far in the book, the main character has discussed a bit about her past and her current relationship with her mother. She talks about how hard it is for her to talk to her mother about important issues in her life. The imagery and text in this book is very detailed and helps the reader truly understand Alison and her mother.

For our human aspect project we chose to represent stress. This is shown through a collage where a man shows traits of stress like immense pressure from the people and responsibilities around him. This relates to “The Bet” since the banker who was put in solitary confinement consistently showed behaviors associated with stress such as “doing nothing but eating and drinking and lying in his bed, frequently yawning and angrily talking to himself”.

This story is about a revolutionary who is posing as a barber. One day a man named Torres, a military leader who kills revolutionaries on a daily basis, walks into his shop in need of a shave. This makes the revolutionary very nervous as Torres has so much power and it raises the question, should the main character kill Torres while he can? What would be the consequences for him if he did? Would the risks be worth the rewards?

This book captured the thoughts and struggles of Christophe André who was abducted and held hostage for 3 months in Chechnya. It takes the reader through the hardships that Christophe endured as he was held hostage and moved around many times in order for his abductors to not get caught. He stays incredibly calm during the 3 months until he finally figures out a way to escape and regain his freedom.
