Some R&R with a delicious homemade smoothie and a random book given to me by one of my bar regulars that‘s actually turning out to be quite amazing. Some of the images are just as delicious as this drink. 🍓🍌📖

I love when my regulars come into my bar and give me books. Especially books I‘ve actually never heard of. But I‘m super intrigued! 🤓

This book hurts my heart but I‘m also so very happy my brother lent it to me when i went home for Christmas. It‘s addicting. 🤓

• At Printers Row Lit fest there was a booth that allowed you to fill a bag with whatever for just 5 bucks. I literally threw whatever i saw (even if I‘d never heard of it like this one) into the bag. I haven‘t read a good short story collection in a while and seeing as how what I‘m working on now (and struggling with) is finishing a collection of short stories— I hope to find this book helpful! 1 story down and so far so good!

Pickpick

Just finished this book and it feels like the end of a relationship. I got so attached to the characters (and there are many). Oyeyemi is absolutely brilliant, creative, poetic, and deep. Every single sentence was refreshing. My only complaint is that there isn‘t more pages so I could spend more time in this world.

Howardsimmons Love her so much! We will have to talk about the ending later, ‘cause I‘m so curious about your thoughts! 7y
LizGrear @Howardsimmons not sure why I didn‘t see this till now but YES! I‘m incredibly impressed with her. One of my regulars bought me a signed copy of “Boy snow bird” because i talked about it for weeks straight. Haha. 7y

INCREDIBLY addicted to this. The writing is visceral and unique and clear and so so so refreshing. I‘ve read her short stories so I kinda knew what to expect but I‘m completely and utterly blown away by this one. Her brain deserves the highest reward. 🥇

Mehso-so

Structurally he did some interesting things. There were some parts that made me literally laugh out loud. There was one part that made me sad. Any piece of art that makes me feel multiple things is good in my eyes. The voice got a little annoying in some parts. But overall not the worst thing I've ever read. More fun to read than anything else !

A little rose and some fiction to give me goosebumps before I finish Christmas shopping.

"All the sad things that have happened are different in scope, in quality, in fact, from all the sad things that haven't happened yet. There is comfort in pausing."

"I started thinking maybe it wasn't so bad. I glanced at one of the bouncy houses, all the flailing little arms and legs...and wondered if you could mark the exact moment in your life when jumping around on bright inflated plastic stopped being enough."

This book gives me more goosebumps than this 10 degree Chicago air does.

The more I read the more bitter I am that I did not write this brilliant and powerful and real book myself. And my bitterness stems from pure joy, really, because this book is probably one of the most well written books I've picked up in a long time.

For what it was-- it was great. Super interesting and quirky anecdotes and observations seen through the eyes of a Chicago cab driver. I spent most of the book giggling. Human's are funny.
