I just finished this one. This story is happening right now somewhere. Parts of it happen every day. #BlackLivesMatter isn't just a hashtag. It's speaking up for what is right. It's sticking together as people, as part of the human family. And it's a story that shows that sometimes you can do everything right, and not get the right outcome, but not give up trying.
I finally got around to reading this, and wish I'd read it years ago. I usually hate time travel in stories, but this wasn't a typical time travel book. It was more than I expected it to be.
Read the book when it came out, just reread it after binge watching the show. Great YA book that doesn't shy away from the tough issues high school students face. The series did a great job with the book. Quite dark and difficult to handle at times.
Really made me think about race and the different experience people of color have in this country. Told in the form of a letter to the author's son, this book is beautifully written and thought provoking.
