post image

The Glass Castle is a book of a young girl maturing and growing as she lives a poor life. She is challenged with neglect, sexual assault, poverty, and abuse. She is a survivor and made it through a very challenging life and gave herself a new path. By moving to New York and becoming a journalist she created many opportunities for herself which led to a column in the newspaper.

Katanna.C She also gave her self the chance to love someone else and gets married. She find it's hard still living life while her past being connected to her, with her parents being homeless and her being embarrassed of that life. If you like books that show challenge and adventures and becoming survivor this book is for you. Jeannette tells this novel in first person to establish her true feelings of how she lived and what it looked like as a child 3y
Katanna.C Who lived under those circumstances. By telling it in first person as she tells her stories she really realizes that she needed to escape from her family and start fresh. 3y

The Glass Castle is Jeannette Walls memoir of her childhood to her adulthood, documenting how her parents both inspired and inhabited her life. It's a story of a little girls escape from abuse, neglect and poverty along with her 3 other siblings. Jeannette brings up memories from her childhood that's help us understand what kind of life she lived. Her family was constantly on the move from place to place because of danger or causing trouble.

Katanna.C The family moves from place to place including the desert where her dad makes all these promises to her and Jeanette has no limits on where she can go out there. Her dad is an alcoholic and her mother has been through a very hard life. They try and teach their kids school themselves as they can never stick to one spot to go to school long enough. Jeannette and her siblings go through some very hard times not other children should have to 3y
Katanna.C If you like books that show challenges and overcoming scenarios in life, how your childhood doesn't define your adulthood and who you are, then this is the perfect book. The themes of the Glass Castle revolve around family and poverty. This theme is present in the whole book when a family of 5 go through their life living poor, in city after city, not having barely any food, water or heat. Not being able to depend on her parents. 3y
