This book attempts to give the reader a glimpse into what it‘s like to be an immigrant in this country. It has a simplistic writing style, yet occasionally surprises with some poetic and profound moments. The way the chapters are set up makes it feel a bit disconnected. Still a quick read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A really slow start, but such a complex and surprisingly humorous story this turned out to be. Looking forward to reading more from this author and interested to see how Witherspoon and Kidman bring the characters to life in the upcoming TV series.

Being a fan of Lauren Graham in Gilmore Girls, I was already biased when I started this book. In a lot of ways, it was similar to GG - a similar fast-paced dialogue and awkward filling in of silences. The book was fun, even funny, it just fell a bit short. 😕 I would read more from LG, though.
