I‘m about 80% through this book club pick, and I am enjoying it a lot more than I anticipated. I‘ve only read Invention of Wings (which I also enjoyed) by Sue Monk Kidd, but this story is really compelling. Ana is a young headstrong girl who enjoys unladylike pursuits like reading and writing, and she bristles under the choices her parents make for her. A chance encounter with a young man called Jesus in a market changes her life. Great read!

So far, I‘m enjoying the series! This one is very tense. I put all new bookshelves in and I am very excited to be able to see a large percentage of my books in one place!!

Disturbing

I‘m not finished with this yet, but so far, I am greatly enjoying it. One of my two book clubs chose this, and the other chose The Ten Thousand Doors of January, and there a great deal of shared elements between the two books. Has anyone read both? Also, I love the end pages. I realize that isn‘t a compelling argument for a book, but look how lovely they are. Overall, halfway in, I recommend this.

I really enjoyed this one! One of my book clubs picked it for this month. It is slow-going at first, but well worth the time taken to read it.

I would feel the same way, have the same panicked realization if faced with the idea that I was attending a party with a Famous Author!

This is my book club's selection for July, and although I am only a little more than halfway through it, I am enjoying it a great deal. I like the way the different stories are weaving together, and I hope I don't change my mind. Recommend

This was my book club's selection from July, I believe, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It weaves a thread between two sisters, one who lives in Ghana and one who is sold into slavery and sent to Virginia. Both women lead difficult lives, and the intersecting story lines are very thought-provoking. I highly recommend it.

This was very engaging and enjoyable. A highly fictionalized but based in part on reality on Angelina and Sarah Grimké, the narrative flips between the perspective of Sarah and Handful, a slave in the Grimké house. This was my book club's selection this month, and I enjoyed it greatly.

I'm having a weird relationship with this book--I was really enjoying it, but then I fell a little flat with it and haven't picked it up in several weeks. I'm a little more than halfway through it. Does anyone have any experience with it? I know I'm allowed to put it down, but I do want to finish it...

I read this for book club, and really enjoyed it! It flips around in time and between different characters to build the story in a way I found irreversible. A glamorous actress arrives at a very small hotel in a tiny Italian village in 1962 waiting for a mysterious man to meet her. Ooohhhhhh!

I picked this up because I saw it recommended for fans of Sherlock, and I can definitely see that comparison. The pacing was just right, and the story was exciting. I found it quite a compelling read, and I am excited to pick up the other books in the series.
