After three years, Heathcliff has returned and is living at his former abode with the man who tortured him, Hindley. He has been invited to stay. Hindley has fallen deeper into the use of alcohol and gambling to assuage his grief. Heathcliff has resumed a relationship with Cathy, but Isabella has fallen hard for him. Catherine and Heathcliff sneak out of the house and decide to spy through the window to watch the Linton Family at Thrushcross Grange. Once again, a dog, Skulker, is let loose and grabs Catherine‘s ankle. She is taken in, receives care and spends the night. Heathcliff is not invited and returns to Wuthering Heights and tells the story to Mrs. Dean.
